Yesterday was the farthest I have every run. I had run 5 and 6 miles before, but never 7! I have felt like I have been doing my long runs too fast which may have been the reason that I started to get shin splints (I read this in a marathon training book). For this reason, I decided to make the 7 miles, long and slow - I didn't want to overexert myself. I still ended up having an 8:30 min/mile pace but I felt like I was taking it easy.
I felt good throughout most of the run. After 5 and a half miles, or so, my knees started to feel the wear of pounding the cement so many times. I think it would be good for me to find some softer grounds for some of my other runs this week. Want to go for a run in the pool...?
